The Jio Phone, unveiled at the Reliance AGM, is currently the talk of the town, even if much of the hardware remains shrouded in mystery. Qualcomm and Spreadtrum have announced that their chips will power the new Jio phone. The device will use a Qualcomm 205 processor that launched in March and will come with LTE support – including 4G VoLTE, while Spreadtrum didn’t reveal much about the nature of its partnership.

In addition, investment bank Jeffries believes the Jio Phone will present a substantial challenge to the competition. Jefferies said in a report, “The monthly plan compares favorably with the mixed ARPU (average unit revenue) of the top three incumbents, but it does offer a cap. While the pricing isn’t as disruptive as feared, it will still be a tough challenge for incumbents to protect their market share as subscribers.”

In addition, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has labeled the launch of JioPhone as “smart marketing” and said that Jio’s sale of the device at an effective zero price is an attempt to cut government fees such as licensing fees charged by the company.

“Previously, if you bundled handsets together with services, the 14 or 11 percent an operator paid was imposed as a license fee on handsets. So as an operator, you can’t compete with a handset seller because the handset seller doesn’t have to pay these extra fees. levy of 11-14 percent to be paid,” said COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews. He said a bundled offering would have increased service costs for operators. ““Reliance Jio’s offering is a smart marketing position … they say that the handset price is zero. So no license fees to pay for that, spectrum usage fees. The government will have to look at what selling the price for zero means,” Mathews said.

I have been blogging since August 2011. I have had over 10,000 visitors to my blog! My goal is to help people, and I have the knowledge and the passion to do this. I love to travel, dance, and play volleyball. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends and family. I started writing my blogs when I lived in California. I would wake up in the middle of the night and write something while listening to music and looking at the ocean. When I moved to Texas, I found a new place to write. I would sit in my backyard while everyone else was at work, and I could write all day.
