Lenovo may have taken a leaf off its subsidiary Motorola and decided to ditch its custom Android skin — Vibe Pure UI — in favor of a leaner, stock approach. The upcoming Lenovo K8 Note comes with Android 7.1.1. Nougat will be the first to do that. The phones will keep steep software improvements like Dolby Atmos technology – which can also be found in Moto devices – but the rest of the bloatware will be gone.
“What we’ve done over the last 11 months is we looked at what we had from a software perspective. We were close to consumers, and we saw what they were asking for,” said Anuj Sharma, head of product marketing for Lenovo India, to Gadgets 360. “There was a certain trend, and we have decided to remove the Vibe Pure UI from our phones. So you now get the stock Android that consumers have been asking for.”

Samsung Galaxy S8 sales surpass 20 million mark Samsung has shipped more than 20 million units of its latest flagship, the Galaxy S8, according to a market research firm Strategy Analytics report. Dong-Jin Koh, head of Samsung’s mobile division, told Korean media that Galaxy S8 shipments are 15 percent higher than S7 shipments for the same period last year. Korean website The Investor notes that Samsung has shipped 278,800 Galaxy S8 units per day since its sale on April 21.

Google reportedly bid $30 billion for Snapchat Google had submitted a $30 billion takeover offer (about Rs. 1,91,044 crores) for Snap — the company behind Snapchat — in 2016, and before the latter went public this year, according to a report in Business Insiders. The offering remains roughly double its current value, with the company’s shares falling from $17 to $12.9 since its IPO. Snap will release its Q2 results next week.
A hacker who helped stop WannaCry arrested for separate crime Marcus Hutchins, a British security researcher better known as @MalwareTechBlog who helped foil the WannaCry ransomware attack, has been arrested for allegedly creating and selling malicious software called Trojan Kronos that targeted bank accounts. The indictment alleges that Hutchins and another unnamed defendant conspired between July 2014 and July 2015 to advertise the availability of the Kronos malware on Internet forums and sell and profit from the malware. Hutchins was detained on his way home from DEF CON, the annual hacker conference.
Sony offers a list of Xperia phones that will get an Android O update. Sony has announced that nine of its phones will receive Android O after Google makes it available, including Sony Xperia X Performance, Sony Xperia XZ, Sony Xperia XZs, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Sony Xperia X, Sony Xperia X Compact, Sony Xperia XA1, Sony Xperia XA1 Ultra, and Sony Xperia L1.
