Is this the end of SMS in India? Text and email alerts may be slow to come out. Online movie ticket service BookMyShow is one of the first companies to sign up for WhatsApp, which has a verified business profile. In the long run, the move would allow the company to send movie confirmation alerts and other texts via WhatsApp instead of SMS. At the moment, however, BookMyShow is only testing its WhatsApp Business profile. WhatsApp is India’s most popular messaging app, with over 200 million active users. Indians sent more than 1.4 billion messages via WhatsApp last year. Paytm, India’s largest mobile wallet app, is also planning to launch a messaging feature for businesses. Texting isn’t going anywhere now, but these companies don’t want it to stay that way.

Don’t believe Xbox One X’s pre-order success claims, analyst warns. According to analyst Michael Pachter, the Xbox One X may not have racked up as many pre-orders as Microsoft’s marketing machine would have you believe. The analyst, known for his strong opinion and knowledge of the video game industry, has argued that the term “fastest-selling Xbox pre-order ever” doesn’t mean much. He explains this by saying that Microsoft is marketing the new console to a team of 30-35 million Xbox Live Gold members, and that’s why it’s heavily reserved. Pachter adds, however, that the Xbox One X was ranked 66th on the Amazon pre-order popularity ranking. He likens this to the NES Classic, a limited edition console that Nintendo launched last year. Pachter says the NES Classic sold 2.3 million units in its lifetime and only reached 23 on the pre-order popularity list.
