Flipkart and Amazon announced they’ll be holding big sales this month, hinting at some specific offers they hope to entice buyers with. Amazon’s Great Indian Sale will take place May 11-14, while Flipkart will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a Big 10 Sale that starts on May 14 and runs through the 18th of the month. This means buyers will have a longer period when some great deals are available, but they won’t be able to compare the two and pick the better offer.

Amazon offers up to 18 percent off Samsung smartphones, up to 40 percent off Moto models, and exchange offers for OnePlus phones. Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite will sell for Rs. 2,000 less than usual, and there’s also a discount on Kindle Unlimited plans. Amazon will also hold contests during this period – customers can win Rs. 1 lakh per hour and have a chance to win an iPhone 7 (Product Red) or one of the many other products.

Rival Flipkart offers cashback deals and product discounts from partners Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, and Lenovo. While several product categories go on sale on May 14, deals for smartphones and other electronics will begin on May 15. Flipkart is also giving away free vouchers and an international holiday.

OnePlus 5

OnePlus 5’s price and specs have allegedly been leaked online. In anticipation of the impending launch of OnePlus’ next “flagship killer”, an online retailer has put together a full list of OnePlus 5 specs, photos, and prices. If all goes well, the successor to the OnePlus 3T will cost $449 (about Rs. 28,880) and will go on sale in June 2017. The listing on Oppomart.com seems to confirm that the phone will indeed be called OnePlus 5 and will have a 5.5. inch QHD (1440×2560) display, plus a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 6GB of RAM, and dual 12-megapixel rear cameras. The listing also reveals 64GB and 128GB storage options, Quick Charge 2.0 support, Oxygen OS based on Android 7.0, dual Nano-SIM slots, and a 3580mAh battery. Only a black version is described. There’s no telling how accurate this is, but it’s consistent with previous leaks.

Nokia 3310 (2017) “shipped now”; Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3 will soon launch HMD Global, the company that now produces and sells Nokia-branded phones, and has announced that the nostalgic Nokia 3310 (2017) has started shipping from its factories. However, there is no clarity on where it will go on sale first. HMD hasn’t announced which countries or regions will get the phone first, though the demand will certainly be astronomical. It is expected to go on sale in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the company has also confirmed that the more conventional models, Nokia 6, Nokia 5, and Nokia 3, will go on sale worldwide in “May-June”. The company previously announced that it is targeting 120 countries for a launch in Q2 2017. Specific launch plans for India could be notified as soon as Monday.

Xiaomi Redmi 4 India launch teased Xiaomi is gearing up to launch its next budget model, most likely Redmi 4, in India this month. The company has tweeted that a new Redmi model will be arriving soon. Still, no details have been confirmed besides a comment from Xiaomi India’s VP Manu Jain about a big announcement this month. An image in the tweet is tagged with the words “Power in your hand”. The Redmi 4 and a possible Redmi 4 Prime variant would replace the Redmi 3S and 3S Prime, respectively. The Redmi 4 in China has a 5-inch 720×1280-pixel display, Snapdragon 430 SoC, 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage, while the Redmi 4 Prime has a 5-inch 1080×1920-pixel display, a Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3GB RAM, and 32 GB storage area.

ISRO Successfully Launched ‘SAARC’ Satellite ISRO completed a successful satellite launch today using a GSLV-F09 rocket from its Sriharikota spaceport. The 2,230 kg South Asian satellite, also known as the SAARC satellite, is intended to improve connectivity and communication between South Asian countries and is valued at Rs. Valued at 235 crores, the satellite can be used for natural resource mapping, telemedicine, distance learning, and regular communications. It is touted as a “gift” to all SAARC countries, although Pakistan has chosen not to use it. The service life is expected to be at least 12 years.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 660, 635, and 630 could launch next week. Qualcomm is scheduled to hold an event on May 9, and in addition to the previously expected Snapdragon 660 SoC, the company could also unveil new Snapdragon 635 and Snapdragon 630 models. The new chips can power various smartphones in the budget and price segment. Rumors have suggested that the Snapdragon 660 could be based on custom Kryo cores derived from the Snapdragon 82x series and may have integrated Adreno 512 graphics plus support for new RAM and storage standards. New phones based on these chips could be launched very soon.

TRAI launches call quality rating app India’s telecom regulator has announced it will launch an app allowing smartphone users to rate the quality of service received. Be lacking. TRAI will also roll out measures to strengthen the Do Not Disturb registry to improve the blocking of unwanted spam calls and messages. The announcements were made at an event celebrating TRAI’s 20th anniversary.

WhatsApp and email can be used to serve subpoenas. The Delhi High Court has ruled that couriers, social networks, and email can serve warrants when citizens have to appear in court. The order comes after a suspect in a court case could not be reached at his physical address. The contract was then made via WhatsApp, email, and text message. The case concerns the anonymous dissemination of allegedly “unwarranted, defamatory, and baseless allegations” against an official of Tata Sons Ltd.

Facebook comments can now be used in comments. The “love”, “wow”, “haha”, “angry”, “sad”, and “like” comments now appear as options when replying to comments and posts on the Android, iOS, and web versions of Facebook. Facebook’s six reaction emojis, introduced to diversify the range of emotions you can express for a post, other than just “liking,” can now be used in comments.
